National Solar Mission

Government of India has launched "Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission" (JNNSM) which aims at development and deployment of solar energy technologies in India.

The objective of the National Solar Mission is to establish India as a global leader in solar energy. This mission is one of eighth mission which comprise India's national action plan on climate change. The mission objective is to contribute India's long term energy security and its ecologically sustainable growth.

The Mission has set a target of 20,000 MW of grid power, 2,000 MW of off-grid solar applications, 20 million sq. meter solar thermal collectors and solar lighting for 20 million households by the end of the 13th Five Year Plan in 2022 in three phases (first phase up to 2012-13, second phase from 2013 to 2017 and third phase from 2017 to 2022).

First phase of this mission has 1,000 MW of grid-connected solar power plants, 200 MW of off-grid solar energy applications and 100 MW of rooftop & small solar power plants.
